Cavalier: diamonds reinvented

Last weekend, Kevin and I were on Galaino Island for a friend’s wedding. It’s a beautiful remote island about two hours away from Vancouver. After a weekend of livinnnn’ (lots of drinking, eating and dancing) we decided on the very unpleasant ferry ride back to Vancouver that we would extend our stay by two days. We were completely dead – especially Kevin… he had a sore back from all the dancing he was doing. He did pushups on the dance floor…nuff said. Hands down the most exciting thing we did during those two days: pick up my custom made diamond earrings at Cavalier. EEEEEEEPPPPP.

A friend of mine, Keith Seabrook, owns this amazing custom jewelry store with his business partner, Dane Stevens. They’ve been in business just over three years and have taken Vancouver’s jewelry scene by storm. Just this week they won “Vancouver’s Best Custom Jewelry” in the Georgia Straight…two years in a row, NBD. Their success can be attributed to their hard work and knowledge but from the outside looking in, it’s because they have reinvented the game. You usually have two options when you buy an engagement ring: a big, impersonal chain like Tiffany’s or a stuffy store where your dad bought your mom’s ring, dealing with a very formal, older gentleman. There really isn’t a middle ground – a place where you feel comfortable talking about foreign concepts like the four C’s and still feel like yourself. The moment you walk into Cavalier, you know you are not entering your typical, run of the mill jewelry store. Ascetically, it looks unreal and they have a bar. I repeat, A BAR…stocked with beer. Hell, might as well crack open a brewsky while you’re trying to decide on which ring your boo might say forever to – great way to calm the nerves! Imagine having a cold brew, on a really dope red leather couch, with one of your good buddies and instead of talking sports, you’re talking diamonds – that’s what Cavalier feels like. Their gems are also hand-selected by Keith and Dane personally – they travel the globe for la crème de la crème (check out this cool video). For me they are like the Uber of jewelry stores – the industry was archaic and needed a change. Their young, refreshing take on this industry could make any man talk diamonds for hours. While I was drooling over my new studs with one of my besties, Kevin was curing his three day hangover on that red couch, watching whatever game was on. Win/win. Thanks for having us, Cavalier! My ears feel like a million bucks. xx
