Remember the way you would sleep as a teenager? If you woke up at 8am on a Saturday morning, it would be like waking up in the middle of the night, and even more remarkable, you would fall right back asleep and then be woken up by your mom at 11am, then snooze for another hour or so. Long gone are those days. All because of #adulting. It causes me to have all sorts of obsessive thoughts, concerns and late night stresses that I never had as a teenager. For the last few years, falling asleep was the hardest part of my day. It would take forever and to my surprise, I’ve recently realized that watching endless cat videos right before bed is not the same thing as counting sheep, it does not make you more tired. I would also drive my husband nuts with my nails tapping away on my phone, writing a few more late night emails before bed. OR catching up on my celebrity gossip.
Not too long ago, my sleep deprivation had reached an ultimate low. I was practically in tears talking about how little sleep I had had all week and that I desperately needed something to change. And then, I was invited to a Saje Wellness invite in Malibu. It was a beautiful, intimate setting where their team explained the benefits of some of their products. One of those products changed my life and opened the door to me trying more products that help me sleep at night, but actually.
So here are five products that have made a huge difference in my life, especially over the last few months. If you end up trying any of them out, leave a comment below and let me know what you think!
1. Dream Dust
Add this in your evening tea, milk or hot/cold water (no coffee before bedtime). I read many reviews on Moonjuice’s Dream Dust, and though some don’t swear by it, everything I read stated that this does indeed work, so I had to give this a go. Having tried it several times now, I can say the effects of it have been different on me with every use. When I am exhausted, it knocks me right out. When I am just tired, it releases tension and causes me to relax. I don’t use this every night, only for those completely draining kind of days. Side note: I also swear by their Beauty Dust too!
2. Sleeping Mask
I would always giggle watching a person sleep on a red eye with a mask on. Like do you really need that? Is it really that bright in here? And the answer is yes. For whatever reason, one day on my way to Paris last year, I put one of those silly masks on and was able to sleep – NEVER happens on a plane. It made me realize how sensitive I am to light, way more than to sound. So when I am desperately trying to sleep in, I put on a sleeping mask. I highly recommend this Sleeping Kit by Saje – the thick mask is lavender scented without being too much.
3. Natural Calm
That time I was practically in tears because of my lack of sleep, a friend of mine recommended this product. Natural Calm is a magnesium supplement. Magnesium deficiency can cause low energy, muscle tension, headaches and surprise surprise, insomnia. I buy the individual packets – they’re easy to use and travel with! Besides it helping me sleep better, I also recommend it if you’re really stressed – it helps release tension and anxiety.
4. Sleep Well
MY RIDE OR DIE. This teeny tiny product has changed my life. Though the ingredients in this roll on are rather simple (chamomile, jasmine and orange), it’s the way you put it on that is major key. You rub a few circles of what I now call “SleepyTime” on the bottom of your feet – the pores on our feet are the largest, providing ultimate absorption. It not only helps me fall sleep, but it ensures I have a deep, relaxing sleep. Game changer!
Ok, bare with me. I went to a tarot card reader (read about the experience here) and a card fell out that “wasn’t suppose to” as I was shuffling the deck and she immediately looked up at me and said “so you haven’t been sleeping…”. She gave me two crystals and I swear, those crystals, combined with Saje’s “SleepyTime” has made all the difference. Amethyst stones bring smoothing and calming energies that help you to relax – I put this little guy in my pillow case. She also gave me a Tourmaline stone which protects you against any negative energy. I put this on my phone before I go to sleep and it’s actually helped! I no longer wake up in the middle of the night to see if someone has responded to my email.
